Chairman Fred, Jr. Speaks

From Social Justice Wiki

On a Dead Prez album:

Listen to Chairman Fred, Jr. on the track Hood News from the Dead Prez album Get Free or Die Tryin'

On His Reputation:

"To them I am a three-strike offender. One, being African American. Two, being the son of Fred Hampton. Three, Fighting for the Liberation of People." (Speaking to African American Social Movements class at GA State Univ., May 2005)

On the Formation of the POCC:

"I know ain’t nobody gonna save us but us, so I wanted to figure out what tool can I use to get as many forces as we can, and that’s when the Prisoners of Conscience Committee was born…"

On Personal Experience:

"How do I recognize the activities of the continuing counter-insurgency? Why don't I have to wait for some Oliver Stone type movie to come out for me to say that something is a conspiracy or a coincidence? Because I went to the same schools that Brother Malcolm went to. He learned Amerikkkan history through its ghettos and prisons."

On Terrorism of African People:

“Everybody’s talking about terrorism…We hear people talking about it now on college campuses, street corners, everywhere. Our position is there should be a discussion, however, its not coming from the correct context, that context being what we refer to as the O.V.’s, the original victims of terrorism. People who have been subjected to terrorism under such terms as slavery, Jim Crow, gentrification, urban renewal, or even police brutality. This is something which transcends all colonial borders…whether it be Liberia, The Congo, or Oakland, California, under such terms as heroin, crack, aids, Ebola, our position is that that is chemical biological warfare being waged against colonized people.”

On Hip Hop:

“We have to make use of the phenomena in our community. Hip Hop, poetry... these are phenomena that we need to use. We need to put our ears to the ground and hear the music. Like Nat Turner used the negro spiritual, we need to use that phenomena as a tool for liberation.”

On Blind Patriotism:

“We need to invest in Africa. If you’re walking around in some red, white, and blue, then we say you’re a Star-Spangled slave.”

On Reparations:

“African people have been and continue to be ripped off for a lot of resources—gold, copper, oil, you name it—however the most valuable resource that African people have been ripped off for are black bodies.”
