OUR INTERVIEW

(We are still waiting on a response - it should be here in a day or two. In the meantime, here are our questions)

1.) The course we are taking "Black Movements in America" works to analyze various black movements throughout history. We spend a great deal of time using these examples to talk about what is effective or ineffective in a social movement. Can you talk a little about how MXG has grown or changed as an organization over the years. What techniques or conditions do you think have been most effective or ineffective?

2.) We have studied various movements in our course that have used art to great effect. The Black August concerts seem to be a successful example of this. To what extent do you feel that art can express the ideologies and aspirations of MXG? What sort of relationship do you feel is forming between the organization and the art world or the hip hop world?

3.) Rosa Clemente visited our class and gave a very inspiring and important talk. One thing she mentioned was the difficulty of being an activism and retaining a lifestyle, essentially making a living. What are your thoughts on the economic aspects and consequences of activism? What would be your own personal struggle or sacrifice as an activist?

4.) What do you feel is most relevant right now for MXG as a social movement? What are the concerns that are taking precedence in the organization? For example, is there a serious concern for funding or for exposure? Or are there particular issues that are becoming more urgent than others?
