They Stole Us, They Sold Us, They Owe Us! Reparations Now!

Millions for Reparations is an umbrella organization for activist groups all over the country - and the world - fighting to get reparations for the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Millions for Reparations has targeted the United States government and large corporations that benefited from the slave trade both in court and through mass rallies and demonstrations, demanding compensation be paid to the African American community. They argue for reparations from religious, historical, and political points of view and believe reparations are an essential component to achieving global justice. Currently, they are spending their time organizing a letter-writing campaign aimed at the New York City council, supporting litigation against major companies who profited from slavery (including Fleet Boston Financial, Aetna and CSX), and staging and participating in rallies and protests across the country. One of the major successes of the group was getting March 21, 2002 recognized as "Reparations Awareness Day" in the city of New York.
