Hey:

Here's the list of questions we drew up and our first assignments for ourselves: As it stands now, here's our division of responsibilities:

Neel: write "What is the Prison Industrial Complex?" and give some philisophical/ideological context to the project. Begin links page.

Luisa & Neel: Interview Project staff (next wednesday, April 6, 5pm, at their site in brooklyn)

Luisa: take pictures/find images for website. write up the interview.

Ruthzee: Attend a workshop and interview attendees. Write a piece about the workshop. Find music for website.

Questions:

-what is the grassroots history of the project?

-what is the gender make-up of the organization and how does it address gender issues?

-What is the organization's alternative vision for a society without prisons and how can we get there?

-What do you propose to do with people who commit crimes? (More rehab?)

-Are there differences between a utopian vision of a world without prisons and the goals you are working toward? In other words, do you have different pragmatic goals versus ideal outcomes?

-Why focus on education (rather than direct action or lobbying)? What are the goals of your educational workshops?

-What is the project's take on federal sentencing guidelines, punishment, white collar crime, inmates with mental health issues, illigal immigrants, etc?

-Are there any prison systems that the project would support? Or examples of rehabilitation programs that it would support?

-Where does the project fit in ideologically and philosophically with other social movements?

-Materially, were does the project get its support (funding) and people (how does it recruit activists, especially formerly incarcerated people?)

-How involved is the project in prisoner re-entry?

-Who are the audiences of the workshops and what do you hope to do for those audiences?
