Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico in 1893, Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos became one of the leading voices of Puerto Rican independence and liberation. Like many of the freedom fighters we have studied in Black Intellectuals, state sponsored repression of Albizu Campos lead to his frequent and extended imprisonment, ultimately lasting for a period of 25 years.
