"Never again on this earth will we allow anyone to make us forget our history, our herstory, our pride, and try to wipe us out." --Sonia Sanchez (1999)

Sonia Sanchez has been one of the most influential activist intellectuals to emerge from the Black Arts Movement in the 1960s and 1970s. Her lucid, penetrating and unapologetic writing has endured to the present day making her one of the most important writers of the twentieth century. A poet from a young age, her published works span more than four decades, Sanchez' voice resonates with the African-American experience while placing the American fight for justice within a global struggle for freedom.

"We must hear the voices and have the dreams of those who came before us, and we must keep them with us in a very real sense. This will keep us centered. This will help us to maintain our understanding of the job we must do." --Sonia Sanchez
