Taxi Workers Alliance

The New York Taxi Workers Alliance supports nonunionized drivers in the New York City taxi industry. They work against issues such as the rising cost of taxi medallions, the economic exploitation of drivers, ethnic discrimination, and targeting by the city police.

In the spring or summer of this year (2005), Biju Matthews, an organizer for the TWA, is publishing his book titled Taxi!: Cabs and Capitalism in New York City (The New Press). It details the taxi workers struggles in New York City from the 1920's to the present as well as discussing New York politics and policies and their effects on the taxi industry.
