Hi! What to say? Well, I'm an English major here. I'm from New York, born and raised in East Harlem, though I now live in the Bronx (still don't really like it). I work at a bookstore and a grocery store, and I like to think there's something poetic there, though I haven't figured it out yet. I'm an active and devout Catholic, my church is my home away from home. I worked for many years with this organization Upper Manhattan Together-- initially East Harlem Partnership for Change before it melded into the larger organization. (If you want to read a good book on community organizing and learn a little about the aforementioned organization, there's a great one Going Public by Mike Gecan.) My dream in life is to work in Sudan or Uganda, to help in the peacework amidst the devastation of war and violence. Right now I'm working on believing in dreams (kind of why I took the class).
Top Three Favorite Books right now (they're always changing): Notes from Underground, Martin Eden, Gramsci's Prison Notebooks.
Top Three Favorite Movies: Habla Con Ella, Naked, American Psycho
Top Three Favorite Music Artists this week: Nina Simone, Built to Spill, Odilio Gonzalez
(another factoid about me if you haven't noticed--I like to use parentheses a lot)
Have a great Spring Break!
