Hey everyone, my name is Amber Berry and I am junior at Barnard College in New York City. I was born and raised in the "heartbeat" of Connecticut, Hartford. I am new to CU this year, transferring from Villanova University in Villanova, Pa and have enjoyed every minute of it. Currently, I am an English major with a focus in American Literature and a concentration in medicine. I am involved in various cultural groups on campus and am a member of the CU accapella group, BREATHE. I intend to enroll in medical school after a year or two off post-graduation and then go into sports medicine. My goal is to become a team physician for a university and also have a private practice in orthopedics. I guess what I have learned the most in this class was about the unsung hereos in social justice movements. You always hear about the Martin Luther King, Jr.s and the Malcolm Xs, but rarely do you hear about the Assata Shakurs or the Ella Bakers. This was the main reason why I chose to take Dr. Kelley's class; to learn about those less mainstream activists. Although there is much left for me to learn about my history as an African-American, I can honestly say that my knowledge of this history has greatly increased as a result of this class. That being said,I hope that you enjoy and learn something from our website. We have put much effort into it, so please take the time to actually read through the information. I guarantee that you find some interesting facts that you have never encountered. Peace. (By the way, this is my dad and I...I couldn't find any solo photos)
