Who am I? I had to do one of these for my high school chem class web page but I was (and still sorta am) computer illiterate, so I got my best friend to do it for me. Alas, she is not here to do it for me now, so here is my attempt:

The place where my heart (and parents) is: Brattleboro, Vermont

One of the chillest places in the world; I live in an old farmhouse that is surrounded by state protected land and forest....it's amazing! Contrary to popular assumptions I do not know everyone in the state, I have only been to the Ben & Jerry's factory once and never to Cabot, I do not downhill ski or snowboard (although I xcountry ski and snowshoe), and we are a liberal state but have many many conservatives (we have a republican governor who is in his second term and we have a nuclear power plant that is crumbling but will still probably get renewed). There are, however, 3 working farms within 5 minutes of my house. And Whoopi Goldberg lives in Marlboro, VT, which is 15 minutes from my house. Southeastern Vermont is a Mecca for older rich artsy hippies because we are only 2.5 hours from Boston and 3.5 from NYC.

Random little tidbits

- Nicaragua is one of my favorite countries. I only spent 8 days (on a program with Witness for Peace) but fell in love with the country and the people. We traveled around Managua and then the coffee region and had meetings with Nicaraguan Union leaders, workers, activists, managers of factories, and fair trade distributors. If only it had been longer....but I will be back!

- My parents are both educators and my older sister is a professional dancer here in the city. My family celebrates Passover, Easter, Christmas and Hannukah. I grew up on reggae, african, celtic, jazz (my dad knows every jazz player ever, and has a gabillion records and cd's.....my friends come to my house to get music from his collection), motown, the dead, and other hippie '60's/'70's music. As wonderful as this was, I missed out on late '80's and '90's pop culture because we also only had 3 TV channels: NH PBS, VT PBS, and local NBC. I don't feel too deprived though. I'm ok being silent during conversations about Saved By the Bell, Ninja Turtles, Backstreet Boys and the like.
