This is a picture of my family at my brother's highschool graduation.

My name is Talibah Lateefah Newman (Seeker of knowledge) and I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. I am the oldest of five children and I have always had the responsibility of positive leadership upon my shoulders. As a leader, I seek to create organic social and political awareness, education, and activism through writing and film. I am here today because I am standing on the shoulders of my ancestors. They are my inspiration and motivation in life because they shed blood, sweat, and tears to obtain freedom for the generations of Africans to come. I owe it to my ancestors and my family to do something positive and progressive in this world for the emancipation of my "broken" people. Through my artwork I seek to evoke and shed light upon the voices of the invisible and unheard souls that are still fighting for their mental and physical freedom today. Our collective memory has left us with the social and conscious responsibility to make a contribution towards the true emancipation of our community and ourselves. The fight continues...
