Zainab S. Abdul-Rahim, born on Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram, October 6th, 1984, was delivered by her father just minutes after dawn in her families suburban home a few miles outside of Houston, Tx. She spent only two years in Texas before moving with her family to Brookline, MA, a predominantly Jewish suburb of Boston. The second to youngest of ten children, Zainab grew up enjoying soccer, track, computers, and music. At the age of six, she moved to Newell, Jamaica with her father and attended 2nd grade at the local elementary school. After a year in Jamaica, Zainab arrived back in Brookline to take care of her cat Sweety Princess Abdul-Rahim and with a new enthusiasm for soccer.
While attending the Amos Lawrence elementary school in Brookline, Zainab discovered her love for poetry that would eventually lead to her 2nd place prize in the town wide Speech Contest. She spent her first year of high school at Brookline High as a celebrated student and athlete before transferring to the Winsor School in 1999. During her high school career, Zainab received recognition for her efforts in community groups in and around Boston, such as the City School and Dimock Community Health Center.
Currently a junior at Harvard College, Zainab is a History of Science concentrator. In the future she hopes to pursue a career in community based medicine and health policy.
