I am in my third year at Columbia University. My major is Comparative Ethnic Studies and I am also in the Creative Writing Program. I work as a tutor for the Double Discovery Center.
My mother is British and my father is black American. My two sisters and I were born in Los Angeles and raised in Ojai, California, a town famous to some for its east/west valley and oranges. I have had other homes - England, Guatemala and now New York - but I'm told my smile is Californian and I still think everything sounds better in Spanglish.
I hope to spend my next semester in Nicaragua studying "Revolution, Transformation and Civil Soceity" with SIT as well as doing anthropological field work in the Garifuna communities there.
Recently, I have been findng heroes and poets in unexpected places and I still read the good news.
