Mission Statement

The Coalition to Preserve Community brings together groups and individuals dedicated to promoting vitality of the diverse neighborhood and to preserving the residential character and architectural integrity of our community. We are opposed to the erosion of the community’s housing stock and the displacement of long-term residents and any activities that tend to homogenize the area along racial and economic lines. We favor balanced development that meets our needs as well as those of private developers, not-for-profit institutions, and public agencies. Existing low and moderate-income housing must be protected and new construction should result in a net increase of housing which reflects the income level of current residents in our community. Our coalition believes that the new development must be respectful, not only of the socioeconomic aspects of our neighborhoods, but also of the physical and environmental features of the surrounding area. We are united in our commitment to ensure that our mixed residential community remains an attractive place to live and continues to contribute to making New York such a unique city.
